The Game: A Million Possibilities by Luke Stoffel - Coming 2027

Boy, Refracted by Luke Stoffel - Book Review

"The Game" Book Preview:

Coming 2027 the sequel to How To Win a Million Dollars and $#!T Glitter comes the Book Where He Finally Gets on the Island... in Every Timeline Except This One)

Luke Stoffel applied to a reality show fourteen times. By application six, he was delusional. By application ten, he was a folk hero to his mailman. By application fourteen, he was the kind of person other people describe at parties using the phrase "bless his heart."

He never got cast.

If you read his debut memoir, How to Win a Million Dollars, you already know the drill: the queer kid from Iowa who moved to New York, painted murals, worked in advertising, carved out multiple million scheme's that make sense only if you've read the book, and even then — debatable. But the island dream never went away. For twenty years, he studied every blindside, every alliance, every confessional where someone cried about missing their kids and then immediately voted out their closest ally. He sent in audition tapes where he pitched himself as the villain, the underdog, the gay superfan, the comeback kid. He pitched himself as a man who would eat a live beetle on camera for airtime. That one almost worked.

None of them worked.

So he wrote himself onto the island instead. In every possible way.

THE GAME: A Million Possibilities is the fifth book in Stoffel's seven-book, seven-dimension series — and it's the weird one. (His editor felt a chill and doesn't know why.)

A choose-your-own-adventure memoir. Fifty levels. Multiple endings. Branching timelines where different versions of the same man get cast on different seasons, make different choices, and become different people. In one path, he's on a safari in Kenya with actual lions outside the campfire. In another, he's running a spy operation out of a hole he dug in the sand with a crab named Gerald. In another, he's making farm animal noises at a woman in a blazer because it seemed like a good strategy at the time. (It was not a good strategy. It was the best strategy.)

There's a path where he wins. There's a path where he loses so badly the jury laughs as he walks out. There's a path where he runs for President of the United States, which reads as satire until you remember a reality TV star already did that, and then it's something else entirely. And running through every timeline — through every blindside, every alliance, every vote — is the same question Stoffel has been asking since Book 1: what are you willing to lose to get the thing you think you want?

The first book was the real story. Glitter, scheme's, a million dollars, and the mess he made finding it. Books 2 through 4 mapped the origin, the grief, and the fantasy — different dimensions of the same life. Book 5 is the game he never played but lived anyway. Twenty years of watching from the wrong side of the screen, turned into a multiverse where he finally gets to play every version, every outcome, every possibility. A million of them, give or take.
