About the Pop Art Tarot

Concept
& Vision
Colman-Smith’s 1909 tarot illustrations are among the most recognized in the world. This deck poses the question: “What would Colman-Smith’s tarot look like if she created it today?”
Drawing inspiration from the Pop Art movement, this project reinterprets her public domain imagery. Much like how Andy Warhol transformed everyday brands into iconic artworks, I aim to breathe new life into traditional symbols through bold colors and contemporary aesthetics.

The Tarot Reimagned
This deck reinterprets classic tarot archetypes with a modern eye:
- Varied skin tones and facial features
- Cultural representation across cards
- A new visual storytelling language for all readers using bold colors across suits to ground the visual story telling
- Designed to reflect the real world while maintaining the mystical core of tarot
It’s not about trends. It’s about relevance, reverence, and representation.
