After being evacuated from South East Asia at the beginning of pandemic, Lucas Stoffel painted 20 new vivid recreations of his time living in Asia. These paintings, all created while in lockdown, explore his 15 years of research doing travel photography all over the continent.
The show, titled “Wanderlust,” premiered at the Prince George Gallery on 27th Street in Manhattan and closed July 25th, 2021. It explored the cultural and religious traditions of Bali, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Taiwan.
About the Artist:
As a recipient of the Starving Artist Award and a selected artist for the amFar Rocks Benefit for AIDS research. Stoffel was featured in AM New York’s Premiere Art Rocks event, coverage which brought him tons of fans, including the folks at Dylan’s Candy Bar who commissioned him to work on a confection-inspired collection.
Because of his consistent showings and press, GLAAD recognized Stoffel as one of their Top 100 artists in 2012.
"Art is not what you see,
but what you make others see."
Commissioned work can be arranged, but because my work revolves around deep cultural signifigance it is important to immerse myself in that culture before taking on a project. The research involved in commissions is quite extensive.
